FEATURED FEAR MAKER: Todd Nunes

FEATURED FEAR MAKER: Todd Nunes

As this week marks the beginning of the end for 2015, We Are Indie Horror reflects on our inaugural year. To kick off the holiday season, we are feeling generous and want to give you a gift in the form of this week’s Featured FearMaker. Todd Nunes, a filmmaker from “cow-town USA” (actually called Vacaville, California) currently is promoting and traveling with his new holiday slasher classic starring his own sister Ashley Mary Nunes  aptly titled All Through The House.

Todd Nunes began working on his craft early in life. In Middle school, he began watching horror films. “To me, [horror] movies were magical because they could terrify an audience and evoke that kind of strong emotion.” High school was when pen first touched paper and started Todd’s ascent into the business of story telling with adapting the classic Friday the 13th into a stage play.  By attacking this endeavor Todd was lead deeper into the characters and story of the film in order to preserve it’s essence. Despite the negative reviews from the faculty, Todd’s play was a smash hit. Three months later, he wrote a sequel which also reached high accolades. By the time he graduated high school, Todd was writing his own original shows.

With numerous stage plays under his belt, he looked towards his inspirations in John Carpenter,  Wes Craven, Quentin Tarantino, and Ridley Scott for his next step in his journey. He altered his focus towards the big screen. After working on a few short films, Todd began work on his first feature, Scary Larry.

Scary Larry tells the following story:

Tatum (Ashley Mary Nunes) has a dark secret that has been tormenting her since childhood. Eventually, her disturbing past catches up with her, while simultaneously giving her a rare opportunity at redemption. As the haunting truth from Tatum’s childhood unfolds, a horrifying legend is born. Things are about to go from bad to GORY! Now, Tatum and her friends must fight to stay alive. This hellish and terrifying Horror movie is filled with suspense, fast-paced action, and a twist you won’t see coming!!!

One of the toughest challenges in the industry is creating your first feature, but once you completed it the rest come with ease. This is true in most and especially Todd’s case. After finishing one full-length feature under his belt, Todd tackled his second feature film. All Through The House can be found traveling the festival circuit during this holiday season. The film stars his sister again, Ashley Mary Nunes, as well as Jessica Cameron, and Melynda KiringAll Through House tells the following holiday tale.

Fifteen years ago, a peaceful Christmas neighborhood was engulfed by fear when five-year-old Jamie Garrett was mysteriously taken from her bedroom never to be seen again. Now on Christmas break, Rachel Kimmel (Ashley Nunes) comes home from college to find her neighborhood struck again by a reign of terror. A violent killer is hiding behind a grisly Santa mask, leaving a bloody trail of slaughtered women and castrated men to the steps of the Garrett house. Rachel finds herself in a horrifying nightmare as she discovers the twisted secret behind the mask.

All Through The House adds to the resurrection of character driven teen slasher films and Todd Nuneshas successfully created another iconic killer that will be required watching over the holiday season for years to come. Todd tells us that the killer has been stirring in his mind since childhood. Unlink other Christmas based horror films, Todd’s film sticks away from seasoned themed subplots such as punishing the naughty, santa obsessed crazies, and he assures there are no death by antlers. Todd creates a film that is dark, scary, and incredibly violent with a high body count. ” It’s everything I love to see in a horror movie – every murder is shown on screen and the anti-hero is a killer with a diabolical, sadistic mystery.”

We Are Indie Horror viewed All Through The House and will have full write up later in the week. The film has won numerous awards including Best Slasher Film, Best Editing, and Audience Choice at the RIP Film Festival in Hollywood, California.

Throughout the entire week, We Are Indie Horror will be welcoming the holidays with Todd Nunes. Be sure to catch our new podcast Tea Time of Terror this coming Friday. Todd will be stopping by to chat holiday horror and give insight into All Through The House.
