From RLJ Entertainment and writer and director Jeff Ferrell (Ghostlight) comes Dead West. Dead West is out now (as of February 7) on DVD featuring the tagline, “Revenge Never Dies.”
The film stars Jeffrey Arrington (Vicious), Brian Sutherland (Fat Kids Rule the World), Meagan Karimi-Naser (“Job Hunters”), Aurelio Voltaire (ABCs of Death 2), and Michael Joseph Draper (“Grimm”). Dead West is written, directed, and edited by Jeff Ferrell and produced by Ferrell and Lance Gilbert
Here is the official synopsis for the film:
“In Dead West, a charismatic outlaw sets out on a murderous cross-country trip searching for true love. Each time he thinks he has found “the one” he ends up disappointed- and she ends up dead.” Managing to elude capture by traveling from one town to the next, his luck runs out when Tony (Arrington), the brother of one of his victims, tracks him down. Suddenly the hunter becomes the hunted as Tony seeks vengeance by enforcing his own brand of vigilante justice.”
I had a chance to check out Dead West and it reminded me of the 80s slasher Maniac, with the aura and spirit of a modern day vigilante western infused with the freedom of a road movie. In fact, in one scene our killer checks out a double feature of Maniac and Vigilante at a drive-in theater. What is striking about the film is that although it deals with a serial killer, he commits all his kills off screen allowing the imagination to run away with the gruesome nature of his crimes.
The DVD for Dead West is now available from RLJ Entertainment in a shiny slip and clear DVD case. The special feature includes extensive commentary from writer and director Jeff Ferrell, actor Brian Sutherland, and the film’s composer Semih Tareen. The DVD also includes “The Making of ‘Dead West‘” documentary which runs about an hour and eight minutes.
